  1. I like the delegation of being the chief Problem-Solver that Moses sets up here -

    "Choose some wise, understanding and respected men from each of your tribes, and I will set them over you."

    Do you know if this resulting 'councils of leaders' or perhaps courts of judgment were given any sort of specific title or name? Are they what became the "Judges" of later times?

  2. These judges were never given a group name, as far as I know, and are not related to the leaders in the book of Judges.

    In that book, certain charismatic persons (gifted by the Holy Spirit) were raised up for certain crises. Once they were recognized as judges, they held that position until they died. They were the transition phase between the leadership of Moses and the kings to come.

  3. Thanks! I wondered because I was thinking if they *were* the foundation for later Judges, there would've had to have been a lot of changes in how they were picked along the way.

    I suppose something like "Elders" might suit them.
