Check This Out!

Thanks to a wonderful suggestion from Ray Gouthier, 365 Forum now features Daily Reading Links on the lower left hand column. Simply click on the day's reading, and Bible Gateway will spring open, with the passage you're looking for.

If you're new to the blog world, you may not know about RSS feeds. RSS (Really Simple Syndication - yes, that's really what it stands for) is a tool that compiles all the blogs you read in one place. Let me try to explain.

If you're using Internet Explorer (like me), there should be a small icon (like the picture to the right) on the toolbar to the upper right of the screen. From my blog, click on that icon, which will open up 365 Forum's RSS feed. At the top of the page, there will be a cream colored box containing some text. At the bottom of that box will be a link that says: Subscribe to this feed. Clicking on that link will open another window. Click on Subscribe and you're all set.

Once you've subscribed, rather than typing the URL (http://www.thebiblein365.blogspot.com/) everytime to get to the blog, just click on the yellow favorites star at the extreme left end of the toolbar. That gives you three choices: Favorites, Feeds and History. Selecting Feeds will open a list of all the blogs you're subscribed to. If one has new content, it will be in bold print. In that case, just click on it and read the RSS feed.

One of the gifts of a committed theologian is the ability to take something simple, and make it sound really complicated. If I've done that, I'm sorry. Even if you're not computer savvy, it's only confusing right at first. After you've done it a couple times, it's very simple, very easy.

  1. Hi Pastor Tim!
Thank you for creating 'The Bible in 365' and this blog! I am really excited to finally make it through the entire Bible!
Regarding our first reading, Genesis 1-3, could you please interject your thoughts on what satan meant when he said to Eve: "For God knows that when you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil."
Was this the beginning of the 'human conscience'?...(Hope this makes sense!)

  2. Backing up a few verses might help us understand what's going on here. Vs. 1 says the serpent was crafty. He bent the truth to ensnare Eve by her own desires: "You will be like God." Satan has promised Eve that she can have knowledge of both good and evil (something that rightfully belongs to God alone), if she will eat the fruit. The beginning of conscience? Perhaps. I think this was definitely the beginning of guilt. We could say it was the end of innocence.

    Any other thoughts?

  3. Are there any commentaries that talk about the time period that Adam and Eve were in the garden before the 'tree' incident?

  4. Craig, I'm sure there are commentaries that cover this time period. Much has been written about what it means to be created in the "image of God." You can find some free commentaries at www.blueletterbible.org/, but they're older and generic. There are other similar sites across the Internet. I'll see what I've got on my shelf.

  5. Regarding the RSS, etc. rather than the topic for a moment, just wanted to say Ray is a good egg - thanks so much to both him and you for including info like this for anyone who may be new to the blogosphere. I don't use IE myself, but I'm sure many folks do, and the Biblegateway links are a lovely idea. - Amy
